A MONTH IN THE LIFE OF THE MAYOR By Cllr Paul Jobbins

WHERE IS THIS YEAR GOING? January has already flown. The year

flies and the car park controversy flies along too, but with the glimmer of more long-term spaces. Before we know it Spring will spring us into summer. Work is in progress regarding the town’s celebration of Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee. Broad Street will be closed for two days, Sunday 3 and Monday 4 June. An open-air united churches’ service is planned, followed by a Big Lunch. The involvement of all bistros, businesses coffee house, pubs, restaurants and residents is encouraged. An entertainment programme is in the making sup- ported by Big Screen TV broadcasting the river pag- eant. This depends on raising sufficient funds to meet costs. Anyone considering sponsoring and gaining advertising will find details at www.mysodbury.co.uk. See you at lunch or on the Big Screen. On Bank Holiday Monday, the party will be on the Ridings organised by Sodbury’s sports clubs, culmi- nating with fireworks and the lighting of our link in the national beacon chain.
