Grey Coat 4 Autumn concert and Guild carol service

All the hard work during rehearsals last term in the music department paid off with an excellent Autumn Concert on Monday 14th November. The music ranged from Henry Purcell to music from the fi lm Dream Girls (performed memorably by Dionne Ward-Anderson, Bethany Walker, Ann-Marie Williams and Lois Cobblah). Other highlights included a beautiful version of A nightingale sang in Berkley Square sung by Megan Bird with the Jazz band and an extremely impressive saxophone solo by Jermaine Amissah. The concert ended with members of the audience humming along to a melody of Abba songs performed by the school orchestra. Many thanks to all the members of staff who worked hard to make it such a success.

The Guild Carol Service this year was held in the hall as St Stephen's Church was having building work carried out. Rev Swinton and a team of helpers worked hard to make the space work for the service and the church like atmosphere was enhanced when a group of girls processed into the hall with candles singing an ancient Advent hymn. All the main music groups performed with a particularly memorable contribution from the concert choir who sang the carol Thorn in the Straw with Charlie Marchant-Rowe the soloist. The Junior Gospel Choir also rose to the occasion with an extremely focussed performance of The night that Christ was born by Kirk Franklin.

After the service there was no rest for the musicians as the concert band and jazz band played excellently during the Christmas fair.
