California stands tall at TSC-hosted SuperSeries T

he LA Selects, San Jose Jr. Sharks and Los Angeles Jr. Kings each won divisions, and two more Jr. Kings teams finished runner-up as four birth years participated in SuperSeries AAA Elite Hockey Tournaments at Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo last month. In addition, TSC and the Jr. Kings played host to their 97 AAA Showcase tournament, in which the Arizona Bobcats edged the Jr. Kings, 2-1, in the championship game.
In SuperSeries play, the Selects won the 98 division, the Jr. Sharks won the 99 bracket and the Jr. Kings captured the 01 division and lost in the 99 and 00 divisions.
A total of 24 teams from the United States and Canada competed in the events.
“What we’re trying to do is create a marquee event in North America and brand a Christmas holiday tourna- ment with Los Angeles,” said Kelly Sorensen, executive director of the Jr. Kings. “This was our first go at hosting multiple birth years, and we’ll host six divisions next year.
“The event was an eye-opener for a lot of these teams from outside Califor- nia.”
The Selects (5-1) edged Team Illinois in the 98 division final, getting two goals from Jared Christy and one apiece from Sean Cullinane and Andre Ghantous. Domenic Bosetti made 24

The Anaheim Wildcats went 3-3 and got eight points from Vladimir Fadeev and seven from Tanner Ensign. The host Jr. Kings capped a domi- nant run through the 01 tournament with a 3-1 victory over the Wildcats in the final. The Wildcats’ goal was one of only two the Jr. Kings allowed in six victories while scoring 32.

The Jr. Sharks (4-2) beat the Alaska All-Stars for third. Colin Tripp of the Jr. Sharks led the tournament with seven goals and finished with 11 points, as did Brendan Ward of the Jr. Kings (3-3), who also got seven points from Logan McColgan. Goaltender Sean Dickson of the Jr. Sharks had three wins and a 1.65 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage.
The Jr. Sharks won the 99 title by edging the Jr. Kings, 3-2, on goals by Nico Rubino, Cameron Ward and Kyle Hancock. The Jr. Sharks also got
22 saves from Kristian Rodgers, while Mike Boutoussov and Luc Salem scored goals for the Jr. Kings. Kurt Michael Bench, Joey Cas- setti, Joseph DiGuiulio, Chase Ed- wards and Daylon Mannon each had four points for San Jose. Niko Grollman led the Jr. Kings with eight points, one off the tourna- ment lead. Jack Lippis and Boutoussov added six points apiece and Salem had five.
Team Alberta ran the table in the 00 tournament, topping the Jr. Kings, 5-3, in the final. Aiden Metcalfe, Hirotaka Cox and Hunter Sansbury scored goals for the Jr. Kings (3-3), while Mat- tias Sholl made 26 saves.

Dylan Florit led the Wildcats (4-2) with eight points and netminder Mar- tin Torres went 4-2 with a 2.64 goals- against average. Jayden Price had 10 points for LA Hockey Club (2-4), while Sahil Pan- war had five points for the Santa Clara Blackhawks (3-3). In the 97 showcase, Dakota Raabe led the Jr. Kings with four points and goaltender Nick Nast allowed just eight goals in five games.
