on’t look now, but the spring and summer months are right around the corner, and the West Coast Supreme (WC Supreme) elite hockey program has a lot to offer.

“It’s aimed at providing players challenging and rewarding hockey experiences in the offseason in a way that’s flexible for various family time commitments and financial situations,” said program director Ben Frank.

WC Supreme showcases both travel and local competitive and AAA elite tournament teams with professional coaching at all of its events. Most tournaments consist of AAA birth year events, but some AA mixed birth year tournaments are also offered locally. WC Supreme has already received acceptance into the prestigious Chi-Town Shuffle AAA tournament in Chicago, Minnesota’s Stars and Stripes AAA tournament and the Southern California Claw Series finals.

The WC Supreme will also participate in Anaheim’s Easter Claw Series regional, the Carmen Starr Memorial elite tournament and the

OC Spring Select League, as well as a number of featured elite roller hockey events hosted by NARCh, the WIHA and AAU.

“The best thing about this program is that it’s completely flexible and there are tons of options,” said Frank. “All players from any club, association, city, state and country are welcome to apply for any one - or all - events and, depending on their ability and skill assessment, may

be accepted for the various teams ranging from AA competitive, AAA and AAA elite. Players are able to sign up for one local tournament team, or two, three, four - or all - events. Each one offers a separate, affordable cost and players can pick the events that work best for their schedules and budgets.

“This works well for families with offseason vacation plans, as well as players who participate in other sports,” Frank noted.

Uniforms are a low-cost reversible jersey that players need to purchase only once and can use for all events. For more information on the West Coast Supreme elite hockey program, visit WestCoastSupremeHockey.com.

Three local clubs celebrate Holiday Fest championships F

our teams were crowned champions at the 12th annual Holiday Fest tournament at Ice Station Valencia, which wasn’t short on thrills during the four-day event.

The showcase ran from Dec. 26-30 and drew 22 squads from around state in addition to Colorado and Texas. Champions included the Tri-Valley Blue Devils (Midget AA 18U), Santa Clara Blackhawks (Midget A 16U), Littleton Hawks (Colo.) Black (Bantam A) and Ventura Mariners (Pee Wee B). The Valencia Flyers were also named the consolation winners in the Pee Wee B division.

Though competitive, the overall number of teams participating was down, said Ice Station hockey administrator John Fregeau. “It seems that all tournament venues

were lighter this year,” he noted. “A lot of teams elected to take the holiday season off entirely.”

Despite a dearth of teams, the Holiday Fest wasn’t without compelling contests. Chief among them was a thrilling Midget A 16U championship final between Santa Clara and West Valley Wolves, which was decided by a Blackhawk goal with 48 seconds left in overtime. Tri-Valley Blue dominated the Midget AA U18 division, outscoring opponents, 45-6, while going 5-0. The Blue Devils rolled over the Ontario Jr. Reign, 10-1, in the championship final with Judah Gemmell scoring four goals.

Other goal-getters included Preston Kopecko, Taylor Ward, Nick Pantell, Kyle Herout, Wes Starr and Cody Murphy. Devin Becerra answered for the Jr. Reign, which went 3-2 in the tournament. Starr led the Blue Devils with eight goals and 13 assists for 21 points.

Others providing offense were Gemmell (seven goals for 18 points), Ward (nine goals, 14 points) and Murphy (nine goals, 14 points).

“I had four forwards who carried the load, scoring- wise,” Tri-Valley coach Mike Holmes said. Defenseman Spencer Schoech played strong at both ends, adding 10 points on three goals and seven assists.

In Midget A 16U play, the Blackhawks were

powered by Daniel Huber, who scored the game- winner in overtime to edge West Valley, 4-3, in the championship game. Mason Friedman set up the deciding goal, which came with 48 seconds left in the extra session. Trevor Chapin scored twice, while Trevor Borja accounted for Santa Clara’s other goal. Christopher Mohr, Joel Goldszer and Jacob

Piotrowski replied for West Valley, which went 2-2-1 in tournament play.

Santa Clara’s 5-0 undefeated run included outscoring opponents, 47-6, while unleashing 169 shots on goal. Huber, who posted hat tricks in Blackhawk wins over the Valencia Express and Pasadena Maple Leafs, finished with seven goals.

The Ventura Mariners cruised through Pee Wee B play by going 4-0 and outscoring teams 49-2. The team received stellar goaltending from E.J. Kaufman. In the final, the Mariners knocked off the California Stars, 7-1, as Jack Tabor netted a hat trick while Callum McCleery added two goals. Nick Morales scored a goal and assisted on three others while Johnny Boylan accounted for Ventura’s other goal.

Jordan Kuschner and Riley Stern also had two assists each. Kyle Artukovitz scored for the Stars,

who finished the Holiday Fest at 2-2.

The Flyers nabbed the consolation title by downing the Maple Leafs, 5-4, in overtime. Griffin Heller powered the Flyers with two goals - including the game-winner with 2:43 left in OT - and an assist. Julian Agregan, James Fregeau and Connor

Glas also furnished goals, while Matthew Bennett contributed two assists for Valencia, which finished the tournament 2-2. Henry Gardner scored twice for the Maple Leafs, who led 4-3 going into the third period. Jackson Michelle’s and Tyler Verna’s first-period goals tied the contest 2-2. Also, Michelle and Verna both finished with two assists.

“It was a terrific week of hockey with a lot of good competition,” Fregeau added. “All of the teams put forth a great effort and were great to work with, on and off the ice.”
