in Week Street. “We are an independent small business and we pride ourselves on our excellent customer service,” said Linda.

New store in the Chequers centre

WHETHER you are an accomplished needleworker or a complete novice, Sew A Good Yarn can help with all your sewing and knitting needs. Situated on the lower ground floor, close to the Gabriel’s Hill entrance of Maidstone’s Mall shopping centre, the shop has everything from dress fabrics and knitting yarns to patterns, fancy dress materials, haberdashery, needles and cotton.

Owners Liz Sawyers and Linda Gander, have continued to expand their ranges since opening the store two months ago. “We are listening to customers to see what they want,” said Liz, “and if there is something we haven’t got, we will try to get it.”

The ladies and all the staff, including shareholder Jay Barker have a wealth of experience, having all worked for many years at the former C&H Fabrics

Customers can rely on friendly help and free advice if they need it as all the team are experienced knitters and sewers. For beginners who would like to receive personal tuition, one-to-one training sessions are available in crocheting, knitting and sewing techniques for a small fee.

A knitting service is also on offer for those who prefer to choose the pattern and yarn but leave the handiwork to an expert. With longer evenings approaching, thoughts turn to

fireside pastimes. A new autumn range of knitting yarns and patterns is in stock and it is hoped to have embroidery threads available before Christmas.

Customising vintage or high street clothes is becoming increasingly popular and the shop has a treasure trove of trimmings, lace, buttons and braids to help achieve that individual new look.
