The Metrologic Group, developers of Metrolog 3D inspection software for CMMs, claims it has significantly raised the bar for CMM software solutions by releasing details of a major technological breakthrough that will guarantee increased productivity of any CNC CMM, irrespective of make, size or model.

The Metrologic ME5009 digital controller has been further enhanced with full integration and compatibility with the new Renishaw PH20 probe head and Metrolog XG software. Unlike previous offerings, this is not a basic

software interface for use with a third party controller – the Metrologic solution is a complete and direct integration with its own ME5009 DCC controller.

The use of Metrologic’s own well-proven and proprietary communication and calibration algorithms ensures optimal probing speed and reduced measuring time on all applications. In addition, the connectivity and guaranteed compatibility between software and hardware from the same manufacturer, ensures quick turnaround in part program creation.

“This breakthrough is another significant development

that shows once again the capability of The Metrologic Group to adapt to the latest technologies and provide the market with fully integrated tools without dependence on hardware or software from other manufacturers” says Philippe Cimadomo, president and CEO. “We now have the only fully integrated and independent solution, and I believe the easiest to use on the market, which allows any CMM to benefit from the latest PH20 probe head technology together with Metrolog XG 3D inspection software.”

He continues: “Our vast experience of retrofitting thousands of CMMs all over the

world, from all manufacturers, means users can rest assured that the system will provide a long-term solution with exceptional support, irrespective

of machine type or application.” Iain Caville, managing director of Measurement Solutions, the UK partner for Metrologic Group, is delighted by this new

Capable of measuring turned parts up to 1m long by 120mm diameter and weighing up to 30kg, the MarScope available from Mahr UK is designed to operate both in the laboratory and on the shopfloor. It features a telecentric precision optical system with a high resolution camera that enables measurements of various characteristics to be made quickly and without contact.

Measuring machines accessible to everyone

Keeping track of your measurements

These characteristics include lengths, intersections, run out, roundness, part axis, pitch, diameters, radius, co-axiality, concentricity, taper length, radius centre and widths of recesses or chamfers. A zoom function allows the measurement of small details such as bevels or small recesses, which are often difficult, if not impossible, to measure with

traditional tactile systems. The part to be measured is mounted vertically between centres or special fixtures. When the fully automatic measuring sequence is initiated, the camera located on the measuring carriage scans the part, acquiring millions of points every second. Measuring value resolution is up to 0.0001mm and angles up to 0.0001°. Repeatability is 1.5μm (length) and 1μm diameter on clean, polished workpiece surfaces. The MarScope can also be equipped with a tactile measuring device incorporating an inductive measuring probe that can be used to calculate flatness and squareness. The probe tip can be calibrated to the optical measuring system and can be rotated by 90° in its length axis to enable tracing

Further extending its range of digital readout units, UK agent for Sylvac, Bowers Metrology has launched the new, cost-effective D300S from the Swiss metrology manufacturer.

Sylvac’s advanced new digital readout unit is able to display the absolute displacement position of the unit’s transducer probes to a resolution of 0.1μm. With all of the new readout’s multi-functions easily accessed via a touchscreen, the compact unit is ideal for use within inspection departments or on the shopfloor.

The D300S has a highly visible 8.5 inch LCD digital display and is capable of accepting readings from two Sylvac probe inputs (P2-P50) and six USB inputs from Sylvac instruments. The readout is able to memorise previously inputted configurations and values and can recall both individual or group preset values. Each of the D300S’s channels has a separate math function, whilst all channels have switchable numeric/analogue and statistical displays.

Extending the unit’s capability through the use of software, the D300S can manage the
