INTRO DR. DEMO DEMO OF THE MONTH
Dr. Fonda - White Light
www.facebook.com/pages/Doctor-Fonda/19923104792 Sussex-based band Dr. Fonda sound like they are fi rmly planted in commercial post-grunge territory but there is more to this Hastings foursome than meets the eye. White Light throbs with a yearning melody underpinned by crunching guitars, suggesting how Oasis’ Sunshine Supernova might sound had it been written by Nickleback whilst Son is a virtually guaranteed mosh-pit churner thanks to a belting hook. Lead singer Jon Diss has the power and range to carry this material with authority and the band wouldn’t sound out of place occupying a respectable slot at this year’s Download. We like.
Bluehand - Fascinator

The stripped down male/female duo thing has been done to death a bit but Blue Hand nevertheless deliver their quirky pop with a pinch of melodrama and humor. Sure, there is more than a whiff of drama students running amok in the dressing up box about the whole thing but Jack Baker’s fl at northern vowels help to stiffen up the tracks whilst maintaining the sense of whimsy. Info was a bit sparse but their MySpace pages feature plenty of examples of their wry bittersweet pop nuggets to download and enjoy.
Peyton Place - Lettors to the Editor
www.facebook.com/peytonplaceband
Scots band Peyton Place have been cleaning up on their national rock competition circuit and their demo is a neat little showcase of their catchy well polished pop/rock, which tips a fairly hefty nod to the likes of The Feeling, or even Take That! The unashamedly commercial stance might not tempt those whose musical tastes tend towards the edgier side but Peyton Place are nevertheless a meticulously well-drilled band. Thoughtful arrangements and fl awless musicianship are topped off with superb vocal harmonies, which is always the hallmark of an above average band.
Hot Vestry - Dust
www.hotvestery.co.uk
Hailing from the north of England, Hot Vestry have an average age of 16 years and we were excited by their own description of their music as ‘experimental rock’. We were disappointed, then, to fi nd that their brand of shambling post-punk could hardly be described as truly experimental, but there is still something engaging about this gloomy racket that reeks with the dank tang of rehearsals in clammy backstreet garages. The standout track, Commiserations sounds like Syd Barrett-era Floyd jamming on Electric Funeral by Black Sabbath; more like this please!
