THE FALL, THE RISE
Birmingham-based four piece The Fall, The Rise take their influences from 90s riff merchants Kerbdog and Cable and merge it with the intensity and melodic tendency of the better post-hardcore bands of the same era. They released a split EP with EvenFlowersKill (from Coventry) in October, and will be releasing their self-titled EP very soon. You can check out the tracks from this at their Soundcloud link below. It’s a limited edition run of 50 if you want a physical one though. So, err, get on that.

BOY BEHIND THE CURTAIN (FRED DAVIES)
Fred Davis is an innocuous producer who has been manipulating sounds for his own amusement. The stand out track The Heartbreak of the Karate Kid (great title) is reminiscent of a 16-bit soundtrack, beefed up to sound club worthy and then scrubbed with dubstep wire wool. So far, he seems to be just making sounds he really enjoys – with no real artist profile or anything beyond the two tracks on Soundcloud. But then, everyone has to start from somewhere. From this initial showing, let’s hope this is the beginning of something great.
