Downe House 1st and U15 Lacrosse teams won the Berkshire Lacrosse Schools Tournament on 28th September. The 1st
St Leonards pupil, 14 year-old Alasdair McDougall, stepped on to the first tee of the Old Course, St Andrews, in the same championship as golfers Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood. Alasdair won the St Andrews Links Junior Golf Association Order of Merit this year, gaining the dream position of being placed on the standby list for the European Tour pro-am event.

House won 7-3 therefore becoming the Berkshire Champions. Meanwhile, the U15s not only drew with Queen Anne’s but were equal in goal average as well.
Sporting SUCCESSES
Sixth Formers at St Mary’s School, Cambridge have set an Olympic Challenge to pupils and staff members to complete 2012 kilometres (km) collectively by June 2012. The distance can be covered by walking, running, swimming or cycling. The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games awarded St Mary’s a plaque to acknowledge their involvement in the 2012 education programme.
Joe Barrett, a 15 year-old pupil at St Edward’s School, Oxford, has been named as the top run-scorer in the county
for the 2011 cricket season – including all junior
and adult players. Joe’s impressive total of 654
runs included centuries v Wiltshire U15 (104),
Buckinghamshire U17 (138) and Bedfordshire U17 (125).

BBC One’s Question Time and Radio 4’s Any Questions? have come together for the first time to offer pupils a chance to produce and host a debate as they take on the Schools Questions and Answers challenge. Six winning schools will work with BBC producers and presenters on Any Questions? or produce a BBC webcast live from their school, which will also be broadcast by BBC Parliament. The competition is open to pupils aged 14-19 and schools are being urged to submit a debate – either a five minute radio or television debate – by 4th December 2011. Nine runner-up schools will be invited to the Houses of Parliament for a Parliament Experience Day, where they will tour the historic Palace of Westminster and meet parliamentarians. Winners and runners up will be announced on 23rd January 2012. Full details and how to enter are available at
