dozen world-class seminars will mark the celebration of 60 years for the MPA in the coming association year. MPA was founded in 1952 and the 2012 year marks the Diamond Jubi- lee. In the first two months of the new season, April and May, MPA will take three different events to four locations nationwide. President Paul Cooper FMPA joins Epson UK to bring ‘True Co- lours’ – the theme of his full day seminar – to life. Colour manage- ment is at the heart of modern photography from studio lighting to capture, workflow and top quality printed output. Paul will present his own search for ultimate quality in com- mercial and technical as well as social commissions, along with examples including the award-winning stock and food shots by his wife and business partner Kate, also a Fellow. “As the other half of our business, Kate can’t join me to present seminars”, Paul told us. “We are too busy for her to leave the studio, but I will be showing a selection of her work.” You’ll be able to ask about MPA’s true colours too – Colin and Linda Buck promise to take questions and the share insights into how MPA works.

up to FMPA, and he does not hestitate to offer constructive analy- sis even to successful Fellowship candidates. “I’ve been privileged to listen to Paul going over prints after judging”, said the MPA’s magazine editor David Kilpatrick. “I can see a seminar from Paul be- ing something packed with solid advice, delivered without gimmicks and with the serious intent of sending every delegate away a better photographer.” Colin and Linda Buck will, again, take a question and answer session. Finally, there are four most valuable days planned for every- one with their sights set on qualifications and awards. ‘Meet the Mentors’ will do exactly what the title of the event says – you will be able to come along, bring some of your work, be introduced to MPA’s panel of volunteer expert mentors and have a short one-to- one with your choice of potential guiding hands. You’ll be free to go away with the benefit of advice from experts, but you may also be offered the chance of mentoring if one of the panel feels you can benefit. MPA mentoring is voluntary and unpaid, and depends on an empathy between the mentor and the candidate as well as practical aspects like travelling distance and other com- mitments. “We have many members who want and need mentoring”, said Colin Buck. “We can’t arrange this without the mentee and mentor having some contact first, to make sure both are happy to take it forward. Our Meet the Mentors days will help with the best match, and if the photographer can’t find the right mentor, they will still go away with personal assessment of their work from several experts.” Colin and Linda Buck will take questions, and will talk about training – why the MPA can not approve or recommend private training, why it’s best to have separate mentoring and training, and where to look to find experienced members who do offer paid-for creative and business training.

The dates and venues of the twelve events planned for April and May – a good time to be ready for the most profitable time of year – will be published in the February edition of Master Photography and before this date on MPA web pages and email circulars.
