MIGRATING SOUTH AFTER all the activity in the Big Apple, the art and antiques show migrates down the East Coast to Florida to capitalise on the balmy temperatures and cater to those who either live there permanently or decamp for the winter. As a result, there is a run of fairs and
shows throughout late January and well into February. The Florida season attracts a good many dealers from the UK and Europe and many dealers capitalise on this busy southern fairs season by standing consecutively at more than one show. First off, from January 20 to 22, is
the Palm Beach Winter Antiques Show, staged at the Crowne Plaza Hotel at West Palm Beach. Featuring 50 exhibitors, the majority
from the US but with a handful from the UK and Canada, it offers antique furniture, decorative and fine arts that range from ancient fossils at Eostone of Florida to Antique American Wicker of New Hampshire. Dolphin Promotions who run the
Palm Beach Winter Antiques Show also run the Miami National Antiques Show and Sale which takes place immediately afterwards from January 27 to 29 at the Miami Airport Convention Center. Here 250 dealers stand from the US,
Canada, South America and Europe with a number from the UK. The broad mix offered here encompasses furniture, glass, ceramics, silver and jewellery, metalwares, textiles, books and specialist fields such as folk art, Judaica and tribal art.
Then from February 2-6 at the Miami
Beach Convention Center there is The Original Miami Beach Antique Show. Billed as the world’s largest indoor
antique show, this is a mammoth event with 900 dealers from 22 different countries standing at its latest staging – 100 of them new exhibitors. On offer will be wide range of material
that will include furniture from the 17th to 19th centuries, Asian Art, textiles and rugs, jewellery, silver, objets d’art and paintings. Then from February 4-12 the Beach
Convention County Centre hosts the big hitter in terms of international glitz, The American International Fine Art Fair where the roster of big names for its 16th staging includes Richard Green and Peter Finer, The Silver Fund and Willow Gallery among its London exhibitors. The New York contingent
includes Ariadne Galleries, Hammer Galleries, Mallett and Todd Merrill. As befits a big-ticket event, the AIFAF
has a full programme of lectures to accompany the buying and selling which this year includes Fabergé expert Geza von Habsburg on Fabergé, The Rebirth of an Icon and Victoria Wyeth lecturing on her grandfather Andrew Wyeth. The centre is also home to the Palm
Beach Jewellery Art and Antique Show, another huge Florida gathering with over 200 dealers, which will be staged this year from February 17-21.

HINDMAN HEADS TO THE BEACH More testimony to Palm Beach’s importance as an art and antiques hub… auctioneers Leslie Hindman have announced that they are to open a new office there, located at 324 Royal Palm Way. In 2010 they opened a saleroom in Naples Florida. “Our Naples location has
continued to grow and we have received a substantial increase in auction and appraisal requests from the Palm Beach area”, said Leslie Hindman, president and CEO. “This new office will allow us to better serve trust and estate professionals, private collectors and institutional clients.”
