sweet than bitter. It signals the completion of my term as the president of the Remodelors Council, and to be honest, it seems not that long ago I was writing my first column for Houston Builder.

It was with some reservation that I agreed to “get on the ladder” three years ago, but I felt obligated to give something back to the organization that has given so much to me. Looking back upon the last year, I feel that the debt I owe to the council has actually grown during the past year. The support I’ve received from the board, committee chairs and co-chairs, and the membership as a whole has been amazing. And the work Karen Krenek has put in was invaluable to any chance of success I might have had.
I look back at our accomplishments with great pride and greater gratitude for the efforts of everyone involved.
SILVER
Our first undertaking was the council’s second annual Vendor Showcase—another success— and served as a warm up for things to come. We followed that a few weeks later with arguably the most successful AIA Sandcastle event ever.
A little over two months later we executed yet another charitable project, this one benefitting S.I.R.E., and less than a month later raised approximately $18,000 at our fourth annual (and most successful) “Garage Sale.”

Mixed in over the course of the year have been our monthly networking events which keep getting better every year. Our incredible associates keep raising the bar for these events.

The efforts of the GHBA Remodelors Council are not only recognized within our organization, but nationally as well. We received four out of eight CADRE Awards (Council Award for Demonstrating Remodeling Excellence) from the National Association of Home Builders Remodelers. These awards are for the efforts of EVERYONE and well deserved. (See page 10.)
