HOMEAID TEAM VOLUNTEERS TIME FOR 'DAY OF CARING'

On October 29, a team of more than 60 volunteers from Bank of America came together with HomeAid Houston to paint five apartments, three offices and a public restroom at Santa Maria’s Bonita House.

HomeAid Houston, a 501(c)3 charity of the Greater Houston Builders Association, led the team with the help of HomeAid board members Leslie King and Tony Boilek, and HomeAid staff Bette Moser, Judith Drummond and Lea Pipitone. Sherwin-Williams provided supplies at a

discount and Warrior Painting provided paint assistance.

Not only did volunteers paint, they also joined Santa Maria residents in creating Halloween decorations for the home and shared basic financial skills through an instructional course.

Santa Maria is committed to providing services for women and their children in crisis. It is also the largest multi-site substance abuse treatment center serving

both women and their children in the state of Texas. Santa Maria’s Bonita House includes 60 apartment units and two 16- bed dormitories for women and children facing homelessness.

This is the third Days of Caring project HomeAid has partnered on in 2011. The other two were projects with Exxon Mobil and CBRE. Days of Caring gives volunteers an opportunity to see a HomeAid project up close, meet clients who are served and help maintain the facilities.

Our mission: To build dignified housing where homeless families & individuals can rebuild their lives.

CB RICHARD ELLIS AND HOMEAID DONATE IMPROVEMENTS TO SANTA MARIA

On September 23, CB Richard Ellis joined HomeAid Houston for its CBRE Cares Shelter Program to provide enhancements to Santa Maria's Bonita House in northeast Houston. The project primarily involved painting six apartments and a computer lab/office space in one day.

Leslie King, HomeAid Houston board member and a member of GHBA’s Remodelors Council, helped lead the project. Sherwin-Williams

Paint Co. provided the paint and supplies at a discounted rate.

In 2010, CB Richard Ellis enhanced its corporate philanthropy program by launching the Shelter Program, which aligns the company’s philanthropic works with its business by focusing on improving housing opportunities for those in need. Through this program, CB Richard Ellis employees partner with housing nonprofits such as HomeAid to participate

in rebuilding projects at homeless shelters, transitional housing and private residences in markets across the U.S.

The CBRE Cares motto, “Building on Compassion,” echoes the overarching goal of the Shelter Program—to build on CB Richard Ellis’ business expertise and the already significant community involvement of our people to deliver a meaningful contribution to the individuals it serves.
