Great Calusa Blueway Paddling Trail offers iPhone App

he nation’s pre- mier paddling trail


now has a free, state- of-the-art smartphone application that us- ers can download to more easily and safely navigate Southwest Florida’s beautiful wa- terways. Lee County Parks & Recreation has launched the Calusa Blueway iPhone app, which helps ca- noeists, kayakers and stand-up paddle- boarders glide through Estero Bay, home to Florida’s first aquatic preserve, and 50 miles of the 190-mile Great Calusa Blueway Paddling Trail.


The first-of-its-kind navigational aid provides real-time GPS coordinates and navigation; an interactive trail map including places of interest, boating tips and regulations; a brief history of Mound Key; and information on flora, fauna and wildlife.

Florida Yards & Neighborhoods Celebrates 10 Years

elebrate the 10th anniversary of the Florida Yards and Neighborhoods program in Lee County by learning the nine principles of maintaining a Florida-friendly yard. A special work- shop will provide such tips from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., December 14, at the Eco- Living Facility, in Rutenberg Park, in Fort Myers.

tant trees, maintenance, efficient irriga- tion, proper mulching and techniques to save money and create a beautiful and healthy yard.
