A program for youth who need support in Lethbridge and area
TRAC is a program designed “TO REACH AND CONNECT” with youth under the age of 18 who need support and information in making healthy decisions in their lives. TRAC connects with youth out on the streets during the daytime and the evening and helps support and connect youth to other community resources for issues such as education, legal, employment, financial, housing, addictions, counselling, sexual awareness information, and medical.
HAVE YOU EVER BEEN: in an uncomfortable situation? forced to make a decision that placed you at risk? in a situation where you felt like you could not get out? IT IS NEVER TOO LATE to make a change and there are people who are willing to help you make that change. REMEMBER YOU HAVE THE POWER AND THE ABILITY TO DECIDE AND DO WHAT IS BEST FOR YOU. High risk behaviours endanger you and others. It is important that youth take precautions to limit their level of risk. PRECAUTIONS: Being informed of the risks and harms of different behaviours (drinking, using drugs, living on the streets, sexual activity).
Being aware of your surroundings. Not being alone after dark. Tell people where you are, who you are with and when you will be back. Having emergency phone numbers and contacts in case an emergency occurs. POTENTIAL RISKS OF STREET LIFE Getting injured, beaten or killed Unwanted sexual activity Getting mugged Higher risk of criminal activity Lack of food and no shelter Some of the high risk behaviours that relate to living on the streets: Prostitution Drug, alcohol, and solvent use Drug trafficking Theft Violence
