WOMENSWEAR

CHINOISERIE

While we are still exploring various African tribal references, the newest ethnic statement puts the spotlight on orientalism. The China Girl refer- ence was felt immensely at Louis

Vuitton, which makes for an intrigu- ing conversation specific to the grow- ing luxury market in Asia. The look is undoubtedly rich from a melting pot of spice tones, to glossy silk satin fab- ric. Prints and patterns are a focus in- cluding replicas of Chinese porcelain florals, dragons and lotus flowers. Sil- houette direction plays upon tradi- tional styling, and includes wide sleeves, mandarin collars and cheongsam dresses, for a very literal take on the theme. Details range from traditional frog button closures to sultry high-slits.

Clockwise from top left: purple hal- terneck dress with panelling detail by Louis Vuitton; orange print dress by Christopher Kane; blossom print top and trousers by Clements Ribeiro; purple and red satin dress by Louis Vuitton; floral print top and trousers by John Galliano; black and floral shirt dress by Dries Van Noten.
