We could see the return
of more tailored offers to meet local needs, more local sourcing and more entrepre- neurship. It will not just be evident in the look of high
streets, but in the way that retailers engage with their customers. Social network- ing, m-commerce as well as the likes of pop-up shops are all becoming part of the new multi-channel retail canvas and will continue to add tex- ture and depth. Adversity breeds creativity and innovation, providing it’s nurtured by government pol- icy. Despite all the talk of austerity, there is every rea- son to look ahead into 2011 and beyond with optimism. ■
