WOMENSWEAR: FROM THE RETRO TO THE ORIENTAL! byMelissaMoylan, trend director at Fashion Snoops
Trend editor for Fashion Snoops, Melissa Moylan predicts that the 70’s are set to return to womenswear, and that oriental influences will be key.
I
n 2011 we see an optimistic year ahead. Developing from minimalist sportswear which was highly praised at the end of last year (and continues to be a popular reference
to the point of being too much of the same), we move into a 70’s frame of mind. In contrast to the current minimalism, the 70’s delights us with a bold retro colour palette and updates sportswear offerings with new silhouette direction centering around flared bottoms and mid-calf hemlines. Another popular exploration of the 70’s comes in the form of bohemia, which is met with a desert expedition twist, bringing a new look to gypsy skirts and maxi dresses. peaking of exploration, our fascination with ethnic
references moves away from Africa and on to China with quite a literal take on orientalism as the next new luxury.
