WINECELLAR
NEYERS VINEYARDS - CHARDONNAY 304 ($66)
Begun in 1992 by Bruce and Barbara Neyers, Neyers
Vineyards produces about 15,000 cases of wine annually. About 25% of the production is Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grown on the 50-acre, organically farmed Conn Valley ranch. Winemaker Tadeo Borchardt joined them in 2004 aſter
several years of experience in the industry making wine in both California and New Zealand. He’s a cum laude graduate of the University of Arizona, a zealous advocate of our natural winemaking practices and an enthusiastic supporter of Neyers’ appreciation for traditionally pro- duced European wines. Tey named this new wine 2010 Chardonnay ‘304’. Te
number ‘304’ comes from the steel industry designation for the finest grade of Stainless Steel used in the fabrication of food-grade wine tanks. Te finished wine is wonderfully aromatic, with a touch of lemon zest and ripe pear. It’s crisp and fresh, and there’s loads of flavour. Te high natural acid- ity will keep it balanced and fragrant for years, but it’s al- ready enjoyable. Bruce and Barbara say a glass or two of it before or with dinner may be one of the kindest things you can do for yourself.
Fall additions to the cellar
THREE NEW WINES THAT HAVE BEEN ADDED TO THE CLUB’S WINE LIST FOR THE FALL OF 2011 HIGHLIGHT THREE OF THE GREAT WINE REGIONS IN THE WORLD STARTING WITH BLACK HILLS ESTATE WINERY IN BRITISH COLUMBIA, NEYERS FROM SONOMA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA AND MOLLYDOOKER FROM AUSTRALIA – DINING SERVICES MANAGER, TIM MCLEAN
MOLLYDOOKER CARNIVAL OF LOVE - SHIRAZ ($210) Located in McLaren Vale about 45 minutes outside Adelaide, the vineyard is 116 acres of what
is believed to be absolute prime McLaren Vale vineyards and is on the same region of land as some of McLaren Vale’s most famous wines including D’Arenburg Dead Arm, Kay’s Block Six Shiraz, Chapel Hill Reserve Shiraz and Mollydooker Velvet Glove. Te vineyard is currently just under 50% Shiraz and the rest is made up of Cabernet, Merlot, Semillon and Chardonnay. Carnival of Love has plenty of beautiful fruit and structure to last for years. Harvey Steiman
at Wine Spectator suggests that it will age well for 10 years and will drink great now through 2017. Pairs with rack of lamb with a cherry reduction jus on saged polenta. It is an incredibly bal-
anced wine which surprisingly goes well with almost anything, but especially with fine red meats. Since the 2007 Carnival of Love has been rated the #9 Wine in the World, it’s extra worthy of
a special occasion now and in the future! It celebrates the journey and love of winemakers Sparky and Sarah and if you want to see the other half of the label you need to purchase a bottle of En- chanted Path.
BLACK HILLS ESTATE WINERY - NOTA BENE ($72)
Black Hills Estate Winery was established in 1996 and
proudly presents wines that have been carefully hand- craſted from vineyard to bottle. Te terroir on their 27 acre vineyard on Black Sage Road is some of the most excep- tional in Canada. A combination of rugged desert earth, long sunlight hours and cool nights yields the intensely flavoured grapes for which they are renowned. Te deep sand and intense heat of this micro-climate enable the growth of exceptional Bordeaux grapes which are carefully hand-picked by the (Black Hills) team. Plantings include the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc that go into the ultra-popular Nota Bene blend.
