super league that caught fire in the spring when it was first announced proved to be the highlight of the year for men at the club. When co-convenor Lou Lacchin looks back

upon the successful resurrection of Men’s Night at St. George’s, he still marvels at the outstanding response from members. Te first announce- ment went out and 75-80 members signed up, a few days later a second reminder was sent out and the number jumped to 120 entries into Men’s Night and by the time all was said and done 211 members coughed up $160 each to play in the league.

12, but we were completely blown away by the response, especially as we went over 150 and then 200 guys,” Lacchin says. “I think there was a pent up demand among the members because we have not had an organized men’s night at the club. Secondly, with the golf soſtware that we used it’s very simple for people to participate. Tere are no time requirements. You are at your leisure. You can play in the morning, or if you work you can be an aſternoon guy.” More than 100 golf clubs use the soſtware
program for men’s night and other events. Te average participation level is generally 60 per cent of those who sign up, but at St. George’s this year the average was 75 per cent.

“I think it will be very interesting to see how
we do in 2012. I don’t know if we will reach 200 again. I’m guessing 150 to 175, but I think it will be a more committed 150 to 175,” Lacchin says. Te reality is that when players fail to show it re- ally impacts a team’s chances of winning that week. Over 1,650 rounds of golf were played by the
16 teams in Men’s Night for an average partici- pation of 138 players per week in our first year. Te busiest night of the season was June 1 when a record number of 160 men teed it up! Te gross scoring average was 43.9 with a net of 36.9. Te league handed out Pro Shop Bucks this season, plus on closing night 55 draw prizes and 17 dozen Pro V’s to “the best of the best”.
