NPower Naples Program Begins N

PowerNaples.com, the city of Naples, Twentyfifty LLC and sup- porters have launched the free NPower Naples energy, resource and cost- saving outreach cam- paign. Local residents and

businesses will be able to identify ways to save money while reducing energy use and lessening waste.

Residents can sign up for a newsletter; stay connected

through social media; participate in free presentations on cost- effective ways to save money and make an immediate differ- ence; and share experiences through the Community Corner on the website, which showcases local energy savings success stories. Businesses can take part in the free Green Business Certification Program.

According to Naples Mayor Bill Barnett, “This is one of the most worthwhile programs that I’ve seen in the last few years. I thoroughly endorse it and would hope that all of the citizens in the greater Naples area take it to heart and benefit from it.” For the program, the city of Naples submitted and won an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant, part of the federal government’s 2009 economic stimulus program. The campaign was designed and will be implemented and admin- istered by local sustainability firm Twentyfifty, in cooperation with the city’s Natural Resources Department.

Unity of Naples to Host Tibetan Monks

T

he creation of a sa- cred mandala and its dissolution in the Gulf, plus several meditations, chantings and informa- tive presentations from November 28 to De- cember 3, will high- light a special visit by eight Tibetan monks to Naples. Unity of Naples will conduct the events,

marking the monks’ final stop of a yearlong tour. Special programming will take place at 7 p.m. November 28, 30 and December 2, at Unity. A mandala—an eight-by- eight-foot elaborate design of colored sand, depicting the cycle of rebirth and renewal—will be created by the monks at Unity, beginning November 28, and can be viewed during its ongoing construction over the following five days. Following its completion from 9 to 11 a.m., December 3, a dissolution ceremony will be held, and then some of the sand will be taken to a location on the Gulf for a blessing ceremony at 1 p.m. Rev. Richard Rogers, of Unity of Naples, says, “The monks

have been greatly looking forward to coming here, for provid- ing the sacred sand to help heal the Gulf, especially after last year’s BP Oil Spill,” he says.

Fees: suggested donations of $10 or $20 at evening events. Location: 2000 Unity Way. For more information including specific location on the Gulf for blessing ceremony, call Rev. Rogers at 239-775-3009, visit NaplesUnity.org or email Rich- ardRogers@NaplesUnity.org. See ad, page 25.
