Zoora lives in the Moro district in Pakistan with her husband and child. The floodwaters swept through their village overnight, forcing Zoora and her family to leave for a nearby embankment where they stayed for three months under the open skies. Skin diseases, vomiting and stomach aches were not uncommon amongst those living along the embankment. Although they received food aid, the family lived without a tent or shelter. Eventually the floodwaters receded and Zoora’s family moved back to their village to find that their home had collapsed. With the few belongings they managed to salvage, they spent the next two months living underneath a tree. Finally, with a roof received through the OPP and MRDF project, Zoora and her husband were able to begin rebuilding their home together.
