Tanzania Community Challenge Thirty-two individuals took part in our Tanzania Community Challenge in January, visiting Daraja Mbili in Arusha, where they worked alongside the local community and our partner, the Centre for Community Initiatives (CCI), to help build toilets and a community centre. The Challenge was a hands-on opportunity to experience the work we support and meet the communities at the heart of what we do.

The trip very sadly ended in tragedy when one of the group, Jane Pritchard (pictured), was killed in a road accident. Jane had worked as Head of Communications at the Regenda Group in Bolton

since August 2010. Paying tribute to Jane, Group Chief Executive of Regenda, Bernard Gallagher, said: “Jane was inspirational, talented and completely committed to helping others. During her short time at Regenda, she made an immediate impression with her infectious enthusiasm, sense of humour and real drive to succeed. She was a real star who will be very sadly missed.” Photo courtesy of the Regenda Group

Following the launch of the End World Slums campaign last year, the campaign has continued to grow with our attendance

at social housing conferences and events around the UK. The campaign aims to build on the historical and professional links between Homeless International and the UK housing sector, highlighting the problems faced by slum dwellers and the community-led solutions to these problems. By the end of the year, almost 200 people had added their name to the campaign, signalling a growing commitment towards global housing issues. The campaign will continue to be a focus of our work over the coming year.
