College best in country for girls’ critical thinking
Mid Kent College has won the 2011 Good Schools Guide prize for achieving the best point score for A-Level critical thinking among girls at any English school.
The awards, based on
performance data from the last three years, are conferred according to the popularity of an individual A-Level subject in relation to students’ performance in that subject when compared to the other examinations they take. Vice principal for curriculum,
Sue McLeod, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this prize, which stands as testament to the quality of our A- level programmes in comparison to those offered by traditional school sixth forms. “We are proud of our A-Level provision and have an impressive
track record in this area, not least in the achievement of the highest mark in the country across last year’s Edexcel A-level psychology exams, attained by Mid Kent student Maria Gallagher.” Dan Cardinal, who teaches
critical thinking at the college, said the achievement was “brilliant news”. This year, around 900 Good
Schools Guide prizes were awarded for A-Level subjects across the UK.
