Baltimore City Garages “Go Green Lights”
Laurel, MD based Hunt Consulting has been awarded the
Baltimore City Parking Authority(BCPA) complete lighting sys- tem replacement of their fifteen garages. Along with BCPA, Balti- more based Energy Services Group (ESG) chose to use the team of Hunt Consulting for the installation of the state-of-the-art ener- gy efficient fluorescent lighting system provided by CT and NY based Green Lighting Technologies (GLT). The existing 3,405 HID fixtures (metal halide at 210-watts
total) will be replaced one-for-one with GLT’s fluorescent sys- tem at 111-watts total for an overall energy savings of 48 per- cent. Once the project has been completed Baltimore City will reap the benefits of over 2.9 million kilo-Watt hours saved for an annual energy savings of $313,000. BCPA will also be able to take advantage of the contribution of over $100,000 of utility incentive money from BG&E. Not only will the lighting quality and levels be vastly improved, the City will also be able to take advantage of the maintenance savings of the new system. There will virtually be little to no maintenance or costs incurred over the next five years. Going “Green” the City’s 2.9 million kilo-Watt hours of sav-
ings is equivalent to either 2,100 metric tons of CO2 or, 230,000 gallons of gasoline or, 4,700 barrels of oil annually. More information on the electrical contractor can be found at
