WE REMINISCE.... What Happened To

Montell Jordan In 1995 Montell Jordan soared to fame with hit track ‘This Is How We Do It’! It was the RnB anthem of its time, storming both the U.S and UK charts at number one and plagues many a dance floor to this day. Montell’s other hit tracks include ‘Something for the Honeyz and the unforgettable ‘Lets Ride’ featuring the droning ‘Erggggh’ signature sounds of Master P. His last release ‘Get It On Tonite’ in 1999 was another track that received good reviews on the dance floor. Montell entered the music scene when RnB was at its peak dominating the charts alongside artists such as R-Kelly and Deborah Cox In addition to his musical accolades he was also a producer and wrote material both for Christina Milan and Sisqo. He is now a born-again Christian and has since left the music business to become a church minister. All the best Montell!

RASHAAN PATTERSON BLEUPHORIA 2011 MACK AVENUE RECORDS II STAR RATING: H H

Bleuphoria transports you back to the 1980’s era of classic soul music. In comparison to Rahsaan’s previous albums it does not offer much in terms

of groundbreaking sounds and or leaves much to the imagination considering both his vocal abilities and arrangement as a producer. I cannot help but think that Rahsaan has played it safe with this compilation of quality yet easy listening sounds. 6AM is by far the stand out track on the album and sure to be a dance floor pleaser. This album is a noble effort however dissapointedly lacks the element of surprise.

Back to put West Coast rap on the map the Game offers his fourth studio release titled The Red Album. As described in

Dre features as an executive producer on this 15 track album with star studded collabo’s with Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy, E40, Snoop, Rick Ross and Beanie Siegel to name a few. Hot tracks include; Drug Test, Martians vs. Goblins featuring Lil Wayne, Tyler & The Creator, Paramedics and Heavy Artillery. ’ ’ ’ Album of the month

JAY Z & KANYE WEST WATCH THE THRONE 2011 ROC-A-FELLA RECORDS

STAR RATING: H H H H H

It’s the album on everyone’s lips Watch the Throne Is not a threat to The English Royal establishment but the long awaited album from the two hottest Hip Hop icons on the scene right now, Jay Z and Kanye. What to expect? 12 expertly produced tracks featuring collaborations with Beyonce, Mr Hudson and Otis Redding.

Commercial pop elements do feature in the production line. However Jay Z and Kanye take it back to the streets with their flow and swagger giving real Hip Hop fans something to talk about! With production by the RZA and the Neptune’s running through and true. This album is the hot one to rock until the unfathomable Dr Dre drops his album...It’s the takeover!

The hot track

Team Hip Hop - Jay Z & Kanye West - Otis 2011 ROC-A-FELLA Records

While half the population cannot relate to the luxe lifestyle both Kanye and Jay Z are rhyming about, they sure make it sound eazeeeee! The track ‘Otis’ emulates the power of Hip Hop and wealth and who better to tell their story other than themselves! The Otis Redding ‘ Try a Little Tenderness’ sample adds a super cool touch to the intro and echoes throughout. This is the album that everyone has been waiting for and not only does it make my album choice of the month but it’s also serving a can of Whoop Ass to Team RnB! Supported by a simple yet effective video the rap duo have compiled all the essential ingredients for a Hip Hop anthem! As Kanye gives a wild, loud SCREAM at the end of the music video! I believe that’s what you call the sweet sound of victory! Come on hit me with something harder Team RnB!

Team RnB - Aloe Blacc- Green lights Stones Throw Records LLC/ Sony Music Entertainment UK Limited Today I have to bow down to Hip Hop royalty. I don’t think anyone can test Hova & Kanyezeeee’s ‘Otis’. Even I vote for this to win this round. What I will do is choose a track that compliments ‘Otis’ and for this I turn to Aloe Blacc with his latest joint ‘Green Lights’. Like ‘Otis’, ‘Green Lights’ has got the whole Redding, Al Green vibe going on with it’s feel good air and that church organ sound synonymous with soul tracks of the Redding era. In the words of Choice’s Jennie Francis “Sit on it, crank it up and let it move you”.
