ne Love Peace Festival 2011: a day that looked set to break the identikit British festival lineup mold by focusing on a strong list of reggae stars alongside UK and US artists. With the key message of “educating the world through the powerful medium of music”, fostering harmony and promoting a gun and knife crime-free environment, the event followed in the footsteps of previous concerts inspired by Bob Marley’s 1978 One Love Peace Concert in Jamaica. The last UK incarnation of this took place in 1991, so it could be said that this year’s event had to prove something to the fans who had been waiting for something like this for two decades.

So what did the festival claim to have in store for us? Big names such as international superstars Shaggy and Sean Paul? Check. Reggae stalwarts such as the Abyssinians and John Holt? Check. Busta Rhymes back in the UK for the first time in years? Check. The legendary Wembley Arena as a venue backdrop for it all? Check. And to top it all off, on that last day of July, the sun was out in North- west London and the signs were all good. Team Hotminute was ready!
