PURPOSE OF THE EDUCATION HANDBOOK

WELCOME TO THE SECOND EDITION OF THE EDUCATION HANDBOOK

This edition of the Education Handbook profiles the work of key education leaders, to encourage cross-sectoral collabora- tion. The Education Handbook aims to provide key stakehold- ers in the public and private sectors with a comprehensive overview of the state of education in South Africa.

The focus is on supporting our Government’s Action Plan to 2014: Towards the Realization of Schooling 2025. It is also designed to encourage collaboration on research and connecting with other education leaders to ensure that it of- fers education leaders a comprehensive reference to the poli- cies, frameworks, projects, research, collaboration and initia- tives that shape the future of education.

THIS HANDBOOK OFFERS YOU:

n a snapshot of statistics (with access to more detailed online resources)

n an overview of the latest Government strategy and policy implementation strategies

n an overview of education projects initiated by educa- tion action leaders in the private sector

n further understanding of the context and challenges faced.

And above all, we offer a positive viewpoint and ways for- ward. We believe that forward movement comes from cele- brating every success without naively downplaying the realities and challenges faced.

It is a remarkable example of collaboration and participation that connects various role-players in a pro-active way to make a discernable difference in education and we would like to thank all the contributors that have contributed to this edition.

From the Argo Team
