Local beekeepers will provide free honey tastings and offer for sale a variety of pure honey, wax candles, tropical fruit trees and herbs and other gift items. The family-friendly event, conducted by Lee County Extension Services and the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, will also feature hourly prize raffles; information on how to start a bee yard; beehive demonstration displays and informative talks on honeybees; and a honey contest.

Sponsored by the Holton Eco-Preserve and held at its facility in Fort Myers, the one-day intensive workshop is designed to remove the trial-and-error from garden compost operations.
The event will discuss worm ranching and the
nutritional benefits of live compost while presenting easy, fast ways to sustainably reduce, reuse and recycle.

First Annual In Her Shoes Event T
his month, Footsteps to the Future (FTTF) will be collecting gently used, brand name and
designer shoes and purses to be sold in September at the first annual In Her Shoes event, to benefit the nonprofit organization. Women are invited to bring their shoes and handbags for donating at the Hot Summer Nights of Fashion, from 6 to 8 p.m., August 10, at The Shoppes at Vanderbilt, in Naples. After donating their items, they can shop
for lingerie, jewelry, clothing, makeup and more while enjoying live entertainment and light refreshments. All donated items will then be available for purchase at the In Her Shoes fund- raising event, taking place from 6 to 8:30 p.m., September 14, at the same venue. Guests can purchase the shoes and purses at discounted prices while supporting FTTF, which empowers young women that are in and aging out of the foster care system, to safely and successfully transition to living independently. The fundraiser will include a silent auction, raffles, live entertainment, refreshments and cocktails.
