New UPS system

APC by Schneider Electric has announced the launch of the MGE Galaxy 300 UPS system. The Galaxy 300 is intended to provide a simplified and reliable solution for

protecting small and medium businesses, commercial buildings and technical facilities. It offers power protection and a robust system. The new product is a 3-phase UPS system that is fully RoHS (Restriction of the use of Hazardous Substances) compliant. The power efficiency rates up to 93%. The UPS system uses a double conversion online

topology which provides a regulated and reliable power supply. It offers up to 30 minutes of integrated battery back-up, and internal mechanical bypass to provide higher levels of power availability. Users are able to monitor and manage power

requirements locally and remotely through a web/SNMP interface and a user- friendly display available in 18 languages. For convenient power distribution, both three to three and three to single

phase power configurations are available. Servicing of the unit is enhanced by allowing front panel access for ease of maintenance in confined spaces. The company states that these features, combined with the compact design

and easy installation, meet all the key requirements of customers looking for a 3-phase UPS in the 10-40kVA power range.

New Wide Temperature Ethernet-to-Fibre Media Converter

Moxa has unveiled the IMC-21A, a new series of industrial Ethernet-to- fibre media converters. The IMC-21A converts from 10/100BaseT(X) to 100BaseFX and is designed to meet the demanding requirements of critical applications. It can operate reliably and stably in a wide temperature range of -40 to 75°C and is housed in a rugged metal case. To prevent data transmission failures, the IMC-21A series includes Link

Fault Pass-through (LFP). Typically, when one side of a link fails, the other end of the link continues to transmit packets, waiting for a response that will never arrive. LFP forces the link to shut down as soon as it notices that the other link has gone down, giving the application software a chance to react. The IMC-21A series is DIN-Rail mountable. The TP

port’s connection speed, half/full duplex mode, and force/ auto mode are all selectable by DIP switch, as is the fibre port’s half/full duplex mode. Multi mode and single mode models with SC or ST fibre connectors are available.

Two New ONVIF Compliant Encoders

Samsung has added two new ONVIF compliant encoders to its iPOLiS portfolio of network friendly products. The four channel SPE-400 and sixteen channel rack-mounted SPE-1600R, which houses up to 4 x SPE-400B four channel encoder blades, join the SPE-100 single channel encoder to provide a method of adding analogue cameras to an IP/network based video surveillance system. All three encoders enable images captured by an analogue camera to

be transmitted in real-time across a network at 4-CIF resolution. A multi- streaming feature provides the option of utilising H.264, MPEG-4 or MJPEG compression to minimise bandwidth consumption by simultaneously transmitting images at various frame rates and resolutions to different locations on a network. “Our encoder series provide a

very installer friendly method of converting an analogue CCTV

system into a network based surveillance solution,” said John Fisk, European IP Product Manager for Samsung Techwin Europe Limited.

www.netcommseurope.com Latest Generation of SGI Altix ICE

SGI has announced the latest generation of SGI Altix ICE, a highly flexible, tightly integrated blade architecture based on the latest Intel Xeon (codenamed ‘Sandy Bridge EP’) processor series. This newest Altix ICE solution represents the fifth generation of the high performance computing (HPC) solution, offering numerous advancements in performance and density while addressing the ongoing need to consolidate computing “cluster sprawl.” This next generation Altix ICE, with support for FDR InfiniBand, improves

upon previous robustly designed, integrated blade systems and continues the heritage of a purposefully designed scale-out technical computing solution. Generation over generation, the system design has become increasingly more flexible, enabling a broader range of options for compute nodes, topology types, InfiniBand fabric design, power, and cooling. The system is expected to scale to 2,304 cores in a single rack. “Over the years, SGI Altix ICE has enabled users in numerous fields to

make significant advancements,” said SGI CTO Dr. Eng Lim Goh. “This next generation design of Altix ICE starts at an affordable 10 teraflops, suitable for high performance computing for the masses or small- and medium-sized companies. From there, it seamlessly scales to more than 100 petaflops, making this the architecture leading to our exascale computing solution.”

New VersaPOD 600mm data centre server cabinet

Siemon has added a new 600mm wide cabinet to its VersaPOD line of data centre cabinets and racks. The VersaPOD 600mm cabinet is designed as a cost-effective option for server applications that do not require the Zero-U vertical patching and cable management solutions that are offered with the fully-featured VersaPOD. The new 600mm-wide cabinet is designed to provide a quickly assembled, stable platform for data centre and telecommunications room applications. Visually, the new 600mm cabinet looks like the fully-featured

VersaPOD, allowing it to be deployed in conjunction with the full version to support standard cabinet applications, whilst maintaining a consistent aesthetic. Like the full-size VersaPOD, the

600mm version features contoured, highly perforated doors that deliver 71% airflow for efficient thermal management.

New Universal Single-Width AdvancedMC Processor Module

Kontron has introduced its new universal single- width AdvancedMC processor module AM4120. This board is the first member of a new Kontron AdvancedMC product family with the Freescale QorIQ processors. The new AdvancedMC family is targeted at cost-sensitive applications as well as powerful data plane and control plane applications. The processor module is equipped with the Freescale QorIQ

P2020 Dual Core processor with up to 1.2GHz and based on the Power Architecture e500. Developers state that application reliability is ensured with features such as the redundant universal bootloader U-Boot and persistent memory for cycle data storage. A dedicated Module Management Controller (MMC), which supports basic IPMI commands, is used for board management, enabling operators to monitor the status of the AdvancedMC module in the system. The product features 4x SERDES lines routed to AMC ports 4 – 7, which

are configurable either as PCIe (root complex or end point) or SRIO ports (host or agent), for applications which require close programming to the chip without extensive overhead. For further flexibility in inter- and intra system communication, it supports up to 3x GbE channels, which are routed to AMC port 0 plus 2x RJ45 interfaces at the front or routed to AMC ports 0 and 1 plus one port at the front. Depending on the requirements of the application, the product can be used in system configurations with or without MCH.
