Whist copper is expected to continue to play an important role in high volume server/switch connections, fibre


will remain dominant as a backbone solution in data centres and office enterprise environments, in order to meet the huge demands in internet traffic, video applications and storage. It will continue to evolve to support higher speeds through new multi-mode fibres such as OM4 and parallel optics with MPO connectors. The volume of fibre cable in the


data centre will increase six fold as these parallel optic solutions are rolled out to support these higher speeds. The extensive reach and capacity for high volumes of traffic makes fibre the only viable option as a backbone technology. In parallel, technological
