Executive Director's Message

David B. Walls, CAE, CMP I

am so glad it is April. Snowmageddon 2010 is over – thank goodness. If I don’t see another snow flake for two years, I will not be sad. Bring on the April showers,

warm sunny days, cool nights and the sweet smell of garden dirt.

Seasonal allergy sufferers may dread this season, but I

ask, would you rather be shoveling show or sliding on ice? Spring brings changes to the Association as well. Te

MAJ President’s Dinner on Saturday, May 22nd will be honoring Robert J. Zarbin as MAJ’s 57th President. Te President’s Dinner is MAJ’s premier social event, and this year will feature special guests, dinner, dancing and of course our silent and live auctions. Tis year’s black tie event will be hosted at the (new) Hilton Baltimore. Honored guest Iowa Congressman, Bruce Braley (D-

ID) and Maryland Governor, Martin O’Malley (D-MD) have confirmed their attendance. Te evening will commence with cocktails and a silent

auction featuring a collection of fine jewelry, one-of-a-kind artworks, sporting event tickets and other unique collectibles. Dinner will start with a live auction featuring unique “packages” including vacation getaways to Costa Rica, Miami, Park City Utah; sports packages featuring the Redskins and Ravens tickets including transportation and tailgate goodies; crab feast at a luxury home in Annapolis; and much more. During dinner MAJ will be presenting its two prestigious

awards – the Simon K. Walton Civil Justice Award and Trial Lawyer of the Year. Tese awards recognize worthy contributions to the civil justice system. After dinner, the festivities will continue into the night with dancing to a live band. Quite the evening to set the tone for the Association’s new year. Once the celebrations are concluded, staff will be

working with the new President, Executive Committee, new and returning Board members to continue the work of the organization; work that could not be done without the

support of members like you. Your support is important. Whether it is through your

membership, President’s Club support, section or committee participation, or volunteer efforts on one of MAJ’s many public outreach projects, it all contributes to the success of the Association. Just as I look forward to making plans for creating

new gardens and finding exotic new plants, I look forward to working with Robert Zarbin and the new Board for a successful and fruitful year. 
