Learning and Improvement Learning and Sharing Skills
Highlights of our Achievements Sharing skills - saving money - developing “Skills Pools”
Capitalising on our connector role across the region, we have developed a series of “Skills Pools” where NWIEP have funded the initial development and individuals return the investment by providing support to the sector at no cost.
What we’ve done:
• thirty Chief Executives agreeing to return 720 executive coaching hours, this will result to a total of £228,000 non cashable efficiencies
• thirty Senior officers trained as action learning facilitators returning six action learning sessions each, this will result in a total of £54,000 non cashable efficiencies
• eleven peer supervisors to support trained coaches, this will result in a total of £45,500 non cashable efficiencies
• thirty Equality peer support officers trained What next: • further Chief Executive Coaching Programme scheduled • introduction of Large Scale Change Skills Pool • additional Action Learning Programmes offered to Elected Members
Supporting Leaders
North West Employers deliver our cabinet and senior management team away days and provide excellent support to help us develop our plans to improve the outcomes for the people of Wigan. NW Employers understand the challenges senior officers and politicians face which has proved invaluable in helping us work together as a leadership team.
Lord Peter Smith Leader, Wigan Council
We have been working closely with partners to provide opportunities for leaders from different sectors to work and learn together, building collaborative, innovative and courageous approaches to leadership in an increasingly challenging context.
What we’ve done: • coaching support to new Chief Executives • two events for District Chief Executives and Leaders • supported three authorities with a programme of top team development events
• developed and facilitated a collaborative Platinum Leadership Programme for Merseyside BEST Group
• offered a suite of coaching programmes to help further embed coaching cultures within organisations
What next: • launch of 2nd Platinum Leadership Programme • establishment and launch of Regional Coaching Matching Tool • development of a Building Officer/Member relationships toolkit
Our year at a glance 11
Applying the skills, techniques and knowledge developed on the Post Graduate coaching course has been one of the key pillars in transforming our organisation and its culture. We're seeing a really positive shift in the way we conduct our conversations and a new honesty in the way we deal with each other. I want to thank NW Employers for offering this opportunity
