2011 Dance Council Scholarship Recipients Therese Davis Gloria Ziaks & Caryn Halpern Sechrest Ballet Scholarship
Therese began dancing at the age of 10. She loves every aspect of dance – from working on small details of tech- nique from learning to perfecting her movements, to finally performing. She plans to attend the University of North Carolina School of the Arts for her senior year of high school. She hopes to dance with either of her two favorite companies, Pacific Northwest Ballet or the San Francisco Ballet.
Lauren Gifford Joyce Seaborne Bader Scholarship
Lauren is a 9th grader at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, Texas. Currently she is studying ballet, pointe, modern, contemporary and jazz. Her goals are to advance as much as possible in dancing and getting straight A’s in her academics throughout her high school years. Eventually, she would like to major in dance and attend a college with an exceptional dance program.
Anna Lee Greene Miss Miriam Memorial Scholarship
Anna is sixteen years old and has been dancing for twelve years. She has been an apprentice of the Louisiana Delta Ballet Company. She moved to Texas three years ago where she began dancing at the Ballet Academy of Texas. She is also a two year member of the Ballet Ensemble of Texas. After high school, she plans to attend college and join a professional company.
Aubry Neal Dr. Dan Pickard & Rosalie Kimple Scholarship
Eighteen-year-old Aubry is currently enrolled as a fresh- man dance major at Southern Methodist University Meadows School of the Arts. Aubry’s mentor, Kathy Chamberlain director of the Chamberlain School of Performing Arts, taught her that she is not “Aubry the dancer,” she is “Aubry who happens to love to dance.” She plans to pursue a career in dance and wants to begin at the Miami City Ballet.
Hannah Schoendorf Kittie LaPointe Peterson Scholarship
Hannah has been studying classical ballet for 12 years, beginning at the Denton Ballet Academy under the tutelage of Hugh Nini. “What he has taught me has led to many of my accomplishments—in the studio, on stage, and in life.” Hannah is also grateful to her par- ents for the many sacrifices they have made to enable her to pursue her dream of becoming a professional.
Isabelle Seiler Natalie Skelton Tutu Memorial Scholarship
Isabelle has loved to dance for as long as she can remember. The 15-year-old has placed in the Top Twelve for the Contemporary Division of Youth America Grand Prix, and credits her teacher, Joy Capponi, as an amaz- ing choreographer and teacher. After finishing high school, she hopes to get an apprenticeship and eventu- ally dance in Europe, Canada, or any of the great com- panies in the United States.
Jonathan Harris Elaine Harper Memorial Scholarship
Jonathan has never forgotten the 2009 TITAS Command Performance when Marcelo Gomes and Paloma Herrera performed the Black Swan pas de deux. He has even been able to take company class with Marcelo at the Dallas Ballet Center. He says, “Not only was it a spectacular experience, it has motivated me all the more to work hard and pursue my dream of becoming a professional ballet dancer.”
Rachel Hutsell Sally Williams Memorial Scholarship
Rachel’s ultimate goal is to dance in a professional ballet company. She takes classes at Royal Academy of Dance and has also completed the RAD graded exams from primary through grade five, and the intermediate foun- dations vocational exam. Rachel expresses appreciation for her dance training that has allowed her to be accept- ed in esteemed summer intensives, such as the Joffrey Young Dancers Intensive in New York.

Anastasia Markova Tsukerman Fred Kelly Scholarship
Thirteen-year-old Anastasia has traveled from Colorado to Washington, DC to pursue her dream of becoming a prima ballerina. She has performed in productions of The Nutcracker, Le Corsaire, Paquita and The Firebird. Her future is bright as she has been accepted in the summer intensives for ABT in California & Bolshoi. Anastasia is home schooled and currently studies with the Kirov Academy of Ballet.
Nathan Vendt George Skibine Memorial Scholarship
Seventeen-year-old Nathan has been dancing for three years. This year, he is taking seven ballet technique classes, two men’s technique classes, a partnering class, and one class each in jazz, modern, and hip hop. He plans to go to the American Ballet Theater summer intensive in Austin this summer. Nathan wants to grow as a dancer and desires to perfect his craft over the next few years.
