2010 at Jewish Family & Children’s Service

Building Families We are happy to report that we have maintained a steady rate of 30 adoption placements per year. Throughout 2010 we provided post-adoptive support groups, workshops, and programs to strengthen and support families.

Supporting Parents

The agency works at the individual, family, local, and state levels to provide support for parents and children as they build their most vital relationships.

• Received a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration grant to provide child-parent psychotherapy to parents of young children in recovery from substance use disorders at eight Family Residential Treatment programs across Massachusetts.

• Developed the Fragile Beginnings Family Liaison program and the Fragile Beginnings Preemie Parent Alliance.

• Served on the task force for the passage of the Postpartum Depression Act and on the subsequent governor’s commission.

Extending a Lifeline Our Basic Needs programs are lifelines that help people heat their homes, feed their families, keep roofs over their heads, and so much more.

• Selected as lead agency for the $900,000 Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-housing Project Grant by the City of Newton.

• Hired a Public Benefits Advocate to help clients gain access to community resources including SNAP Benefits (formerly called Food Stamps) and TAFDC (Transitional Assistance for Families with Dependent Children) and assisted 185 clients on 262 distinct public benefits issues.

• Expanded Family Table hunger relief and provided food to over 550 individuals each month, a 20% increase in the past year, and an 80% increase in the past three years – approximately 13,500 bags of groceries.

• Raised $15,000 that allowed 300 children to receive holiday gifts selected for them by their parents.

If it was not for JF&CS we would probably be living in our car right now. We are so grateful and some day we hope to repay the kindness and support and help your organization has provided to my family, somehow, some way, some day. Thank you for everything, we will never forget JF&CS as long as we live.
