Let’s not ask Te Vaccines how they feel about being in the Sound of 2011 poll – a vote with an audience so disparate, that spreading the buzz around the breadth of artists from Jamie Woon to Vaccines back to Claire Maguire and then Mona makes a concentrate so weak it’s suitable for baby teeth. To laud the hype on them makes a mockery of our own ears – listen because you want to, not because you’re told, and it all gets better. You will be more than surprised, but What Did You Expect?

THE VACCINES

How are you doing? I’m going through Sainsbury’s on my way to Glastonbury. At Glastonbury, they don’t give you anything, so we’re just getting some supplies.

What’s on the shopping list right now? Ha, I’ve got a bottle of Stoli, some granola and… that’s it.

You’re done; get to the checkouts. No, that’s not it, that’d be an awfully bad show.

Well granola is good… Granola is good, but not really by itself – or with vodka, so I’ll continue

I was going to ask about Glasto actually; has it been a life-long dream to play it as I guess it probably is for most artists? Do you know what, it actually hasn’t. It’s something I’ve never been to, and I know it’s like the godfather of all festivals, but I always dreamed about playing Reading. Reading was the first festival I ever went to; I started pretty young in music, going to festivals and going to see bands and the only festival I ever went to as a paying customer was Reading in 2003 with my brother [Te Horrors’

Tom Cowan]. Now my brother and I are both playing there on the Friday at Reading this year, so that’s more one of my dreams come true. But to play at Glastonbury’s just an honour really. I don’t know what to expect; I’ve never been so I imagine when I get there I’ll probably lose my mind with excitement.

You’re playing Latitude as well – you will be well prepared festival-goers by then – - Yeah, I mean we’re doing three festivals this weekend, you know, we did one yesterday, we’re doing Glastonbury tomorrow, we’re doing
