New Spokesperson for Wounded Warrior Homes
housing, hands-on resources and a defined path for each wounded veteran to transition on their own time, has appointed Chase Weston as their new spokesperson. With a growing homeless veteran population in San Diego, the need for establishing Wounded Warrior Homes is immediate, and Weston wasted no time addressing these needs. “Transitional housing is an overlooked need by today’s stan- dards,” he says. “Service members with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and other physical and mental

handicaps face a wall in their immediate transition. Service members housing gives them the tools and much needed grounding to help them succeed. With- out it, there is a greater chance they will go astray and get lost in the transition. Ultimately, it provides a safe place to start over and do it without self-medicating, drugs, alcohol or worse—ending up homeless.” Founder Mia Roseberry says, “The heartbreaking reality is that I am fielding calls and emails from our service members for transitional housing placement, but we have not yet opened.” The organization’s goal for 2011 is establishing five Wounded Warrior Homes and one condominium complex in San Diego, and then expanding regionally and nationally. Roseberry explains, “With frozen or nonexistent federal, state or local funds
to assist our mission, Wounded Warrior Homes must rely upon financial support from the community. We are deploying creative and fun community fundraisers like our Golf Classic, August 25, and Black Tie Gala, November 19.”
