Cardiff Dog Days of Summer T

he sixth annual Cardiff Dog Days of Summer, a street fair for dogs and dog lovers in Southern California, will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., August 13, in Cardiff-by-the- Sea. Hosted by Cardiff 101 Main Street, the event is expected to draw more than 7,000 four-legged friends, fans and family members.

“They say every dog has his day, and this

year it’s August 13,” says event Co-chair Brad Maassen. “The community and their canine friends come together for contests, games, raffles, ven- dors and, of course, food. It’s a great way to see old friends and make new ones of the two- and four-legged variety.”

Opening this year’s Dog

Days is the Blessing of the Animals, by Drupon Samten Rinpoche, of the Tibetan Meditation Center of Escondido. Highlights of the event include the Purina Rally to Rescue Pro Plan Ambassador Program; a performance by celebrity dog trainer Melissa Heeter and the Purina Incredible Dog Team; an obstacle course sponsored by K-9 connection; a Kid Zone with a bird show and games; silent auction; raffle drawings; and several contests. The first 1,000 attendees will receive “Wag Bags” full of

canine goodies. Proceeds from the event benefit local animal charities and Cardiff 101 Main Street, which sponsors com- munity events throughout the year.
