“AT THE HEART OF THE ARCHITECT’S DESIGN IS A LAYOUT THAT IS INSPIRED BY LIFE AND LIVING AND THE INTERMINGLING OF GENERATIONS”
cabinets, wardrobes within the scheme. Their work also included bespoke walk-in wardrobes crafted from walnut, fine detail on bathroom furniture and a luxury custom- made kitchen.
The elements of sustainability run
throughout sourcing sympathetically and creatively matched with ‘surprise, delight and endurance’. Bespoke elements are in abundance from coffered ceilings, cabinetry, shot-blasted mirror within the walk-in shower to the custom made ‘floating’ walnut staircase connecting the house to an intricately designed floating master bed with a full wall headboard and concealed plasma screen which rises out of the footboard. Standard throughout is Vola brassware, Villeroy and Boch sanitaryware and Porcelanosa tiles. Extending the home automation
functionality past ‘housewide’ access and into complete external access means the house can ‘talk’ to residents wherever they are on holiday, in the office, or otherwise on the road. Gates can be opened, alarms set, lights switched on and off, heating levels adjusted and appliances switched on remotely.
OTHER FEATURES OF THE PROPERTY INCLUDE: • 2 hot water tanks – 600 litres on demand and heated via domestic thermal panel heaters on the roof;
• 8 photovoltaic panels with energy sold back to the grid, allowing reduced unit tariff charges from electricity providers;
• 2 air source heat pumps to service underfloor heating via a buffer tank. The buffer tank maintains a constant temperature;
• Rainwater harvesting. Harvesting of grey water for 4000 litres to supply toilets, washing machines and irrigation for the garden;
• Underfloor heating throughout, with each room is controlled with individual temperature boards;
• Helvar lighting/dimming system; • Planitherm 4 seasons glass.
The achievement of the house has not gone unnoticed either. 1 Zero 4 recently won the residential category at the Pro-Yorkshire RICS Awards. Damian Lawrance MD of LaROCK Construction, said: “We have strived to
design and build an outstanding property which was highly advanced in technology and challenging in design. The property draws upon elements of luxury lifestyle balanced with practicalities of a family home. “We have invested a great deal of time
and energy into creating this ‘super-home’ and the eco elements, build and design set the standard for us as a company moving forwards.” designer
