Show stealer were the huge gold mosaic sculptures made over a period of ten years for mosaic-makers Bisazza by 79-year old Alessandro Mendini (on show at the Triennale design museum). “They are sculptures, really,” he said - though they sit on metal cabinets. The series was called Mobili per Uomo (Furniture for Man).

The sculptures, says Mendini, symbolise or describe contemporary man, - his face, his shoe, his glove, a hat, a manger’s briefcase, a cup and saucer. “They are macro sized objects, gigantic, off-the-scale creations which represent in part the decomposition, the breaking down of bourgeois man, a giant character transformed into a collage.”
