A tower of minis suspended from a crane was another Milan enigma – the bigger and bolder the display, the less likely you are to find out why it is there. It was a little scary, actually.

A jaunty yellow Moooi chair attached to a lamppost was a bit of clever product placement in Tortona. This new design by Studio Job is rotationally-moulded plastic in a host of bright colours.

Several Brits got together for a lovely group show, in an airy green-fringed space in Porta Romana. Fun markers for the venues were blue painted bicycles. Others taking part were SCP, De La Espada, Ercol, and Case Furniture. Russell Pinch launched a sofa and cabinets, against a background of twig wall covering made from forest thinnings.

Spazio Rossana Orlandi is a delightful enclave of small shows by designers and makers selected by grande dame Rossana herself. This year it was something of a cult destination, with an airy courtyard kitted out as an al fresco restaurant. Here were surreal sculptures including a skeleton riding a floral horse. But as is often the case in Milan, no-one could quite explain why
