wedding vows
Re-affirmation of partnership or
his ceremony is for any married couple or civil partners who wish to celebrate renewing their vows in a unique and personal ceremony. Often these ceremonies are associated with a special wedding anniversary, such as the tenth,
twenty-fifth, fortieth, giving the anniversary additional significance and allowing couples to rediscover why they chose to be with each other in the first place. A Re-affirmation of Vows Ceremony is just as appropriate for couples at any stage in their lives together. It is sometimes particularly relevant to those who have been through a period which put a strain on their relationship and who now wish to celebrate their renewed commitment to each other. Newlyweds and civil partners who have had their legal ceremony abroad may also choose to have a Re- affirmation of Vows Ceremony when they get home, allowing family and friends to share the occasion.
Who is the ceremony designed for?
Any couple, married or registered for any length of time and of any age, can arrange a ceremony. You do not have to live in the registration district where you want to hold the ceremony.
Where can you hold it? Your celebration can take place in one of the county’s register offices or in an approved venue.
What is the format?
The Re-affirmation of Vows Ceremony can be as individual as the couple arranging the celebration. It can be formal or informal, traditional or modern. It can incorporate readings, poetry and music which are special to you. Special people in your lives can take part in the ceremony, including children, friends and relatives – or it can be a simple occasion for just the two of you and two people to witness the signing of the certificate.
Just as no two relationships are the same, every Re-affirmation of Vows Ceremony is different. The registrar will guide you through the options and help you put together a ceremonywhich has specialmeaning for you.
It might, for instance, take the following form:
! Introduction and welcome
! Acknowledgement of children
! Readings or a speech by a special guest
! Renewal of vows ! Rededication of ring(s) ! Signing of the certificate ! Closing words
Your ceremony will be conducted by a Celebrant from the register office who will follow the choices you make and lead you through it.
