teresting, considering that I, like I’m sure most other people have lamented: “Oh how much easier life would be if I was just a monkey.” But now this age old ad-

here to write about this week. I’m here to once again


discuss an issue that is very close to my heart. I touch on it at the begin- ning of each summer in the hopes of getting others involved in my cause. After a long winter of fundraising and promot- ing public awareness it is time to start the hard work of The Air Is A Lit- tle Bit Better Here Than Where I Come From Fund (or TAIALBBHTWICFF to make it a little easier to remember). This is something that


is very dear to me today for three reason: 1) It has provided me with the op- portunity to help others. 2) It gives the slightly less fortunate a chance at a better life and 3) I couldn’t think of anything else to write about this week. In case you don’t know,


TAIALBBHTWICFF gives those who live in afflu- ent neighborhoods in more populated states, the chance to realize their dream of spending part of their summer in a beauti- ful home or condo on Lake Winnipesaukee. These unfortunate souls were so preoccupied with

money-making matters during the winter months that summer snuck up on them and they have sud- denly found themselves stuck without a reserva- tion at a beautiful lakefront property. They do go fast. This year TAIALBBHT- WICFF has been particu- larly overwhelmed with requests from unfortunate middle to upper class fam- ilies; many who thought they would never need us. They scoffed at us as they owned second homes on Winnipesaukee that they could use at their whim. Some even tried their best to stop us when they re- alized that TAIALBBHT- WICFF was helping to fill homes next to theirs with unknown transients for


summer weeks. Recent weak economic


conditions have forced a few of them to sell their second home and now, they too, are turning to us for help in these desperate times of summer lakefront living issues. But those of us involved


with TAIALBBHTWICFF don’t discriminate no mat- ter what (except for that one belligerent individu- al who used to own that home over in the broads, you know who you are). The amount of requests


we have received has far outnumbered the avail- able places. We are hoping that people will be willing to take a step or two down in comfort to help fill the demand. Still, we realize a

tion why I do it. But when I see the faces of a family arriving and stepping out of their Mercedes and tak- ing in their lakefront digs, first with a wary question- ing look and then a sigh of acceptance of the best they are going to get, it brings a tear to my eye. Even a monkey would feel good about it.
