TripAdvisor


There is huge concern about the number of false and malicious reviews on TripAdvisor, and many owners feel their business has been badly affected by even a single malicious review, often posted by someone who has never stayed, or by even a competitor. We welcome your comments and experiences (good and bad) about TripAdvisor – particularly if you have encountered difficulties challenging a false and malicious review, or a “review” by someone who has never stayed at your B&B.


Fire Inspections


As you may remember, the 2006 Fire Regulations were our biggest lobbying issue for the first few years, as fire inspections were inconsistent across the country, and all too often resulted in disproportionate demands for ‘hotel-style’ fire precautions in small family-home B&Bs. Luckily the problems now seem much more few and far between, as local fire departments have adapted to the revised guidelines we helped get introduced (“Do You Take Paying Guests?”) – but if you have experienced a problem, do tell us about it.


Budget Hotels


Has one of the branded budget hotels opened near you – and if so, has it affected your business? Let us know, and give us your thoughts about the competition B&Bs face from the budget brands.


PRS for Music


PRS for Music have been accused of using aggressive telephone ‘sales’ techniques.


We believe their charging of a much higher licence fee for B&Bs and guest houses where a TV or radio is present in a “public” area (eg dining room or lounge) is unfair double-charging, as there is no “public” access, only the same guests who are staying and listening to the radio or TV in their bedrooms (there is much more detail on this our member pages).

Local Planning
