“Our business is a mix of tourists and business people – in Newark we get a lot of one night stays. We don’t have a two night minimum. We have one big table for the guests to sit round. We do dinners, by request. We did a lot of events, but not so much now as there is only me to do them.
“Our guests keep in touch with us and with each other, so we have got to know lots of them very well.”
Lisa’s guests are certainly full of praise: one said “A lovely taste of home. After staying in hotels in more than 30 countries, this is far and away the best welcome we’ve had, Thankyou!” – and that comment is by no means untypical.
“We get a lot of bookings from abroad – they find our website. We don’t have online booking yet but are looking into that now.

Nevertheless, business is not easy: “Trade has been very hard this year – tougher than last year, especially around the Royal Wedding.”
Turning to the future, Lisa plans to do ‘how to run a B&B’ weekends, as well as producing the cookery book – and of course running a seven-bedroom award-winning B&B. There will certainly be no time to get bored…!
