miles. “It is a very good work- out for the most hardened cy- clist, a real challenge for the less experienced. “It visits Crouch, Ryarsh,

Snodland, Horton Kirby and Ash,” said Tom. The Classic is 23 miles. “A

great ride that includes a very short hill with a gradient of 1 in 4, with badges awarded to those

who ride it. It is suitable for all, but requires some training if you don’t normally ride a bike,” advised Tom. The Cruise is 13 miles: “Quiet

lanes, especially suitable for the occasional cyclist and for fami- lies with younger children.” Tom explained that the rides

were to raise funds for St Mary’s Church, Stansted.

“They provide something for

everyone, from families to the serious cyclist, with interesting routes, excellent back-up, a ploughman’s lunch and the promise of tea with scrump- tious homemade cakes,” he added. Entry costs £15 for adults and

£10 for children. Details at www.cloistersbikeride.org or call 01732 822483 (answer- phone) for an entry form.

Youth club break-ins A YOUTH club has been broken into twice in a month. Snodland Youth Club meets once a fort-

night in Christ Church Hall, Malling Road. A Wii, plus controllers and nun chucks, games, computer monitor, keyboard and two sets of darts, together worth £650, were stolen in the first break-in. Eighteen cans of drink were taken on the second occasion. “We don’t know if it was the same people

the second time because they thought we had replaced everything,” said Helen Comber, who helps run the club. “If it happens again we will have to close

down because we don’t have the money to keep replacing things.” Security at the building is to be improved

and Helen hopes someone may come for- ward to help replace the stolen equipment.

Footballers design own team kit

PLAYERS in a primary school football team have designed their own football kit, and a par- ent has made the shirts and shorts and presented them to the school. Mike Barnes, of Recreation

Avenue, Snodland, is pictured with Snodland Church of Eng- land Primary School foot- ballers. Mike runs Winston Sports in Orpington and manufactures kit for local schools and teams, in- cluding Snodland Nomads. His son and daughter, Charlie and Isabel, attend the school. “A teacher asked me how

much it would cost to buy the kit,” he explained. “I said I would provide it. Rather than be tied to the catalogue we de- cided the kids could come up with their own design. “They chose the best one and

we made it to that design. It’s nice to give something back to the school.” Teacher Emily Wright said:

“We would like to say a big thank you to Mike Barnes for kindly donating the new kit to our school football team. The boys are very excited about wearing it in their next matches.”
