Blue Chip makes Microsoft’s UK top five

The Training Solutions division of IT specialist, Blue Chip, has achieved Microsoft’s Gold Competency Status, becoming one of the software giant’s top-five UK-based learning partners, and the only company in Hampshire and Dorset to have qualified under the latest guidelines.

Blue Chip training manager Oliver Bruffell said: “We only have to look at how extremely busy our specialist training centres in Southampton and Leeds are to see that there is an industry-wide thirst for the latest knowledge in all technologies, including Microsoft. We pride ourselves on delivering training programmes across a wide variety of subjects, and will always invest in achieving the highest qualifications and standards to maintain our position amongst the best in the country at delivering quality training solutions.“

Microsoft competencies are aligned with how customers actually buy, making it easier for partners, such as Blue Chip, to promote skills and

expertise to customers. When a partner organisation earns one or more silver competencies, they can showcase their company’s business focus and experience. Achieving gold competency, allows Blue Chip to demonstrate the highest, most consistent capability and commitment to a particular business solution area for its customers.

Last year Microsoft Learning’s general manager, Lutz Ziob, detoured to the UK specifically to congratulate Blue Chip on 14% growth in providing Microsoft curriculum courses and 10.5% growth in Microsoft certification, in what was deemed a difficult economic year. The figure has risen by 39.4% on last year in a market that had dropped 9% UK wide, coupled with more than 200 delegates currently attending Blue Chip’s training centres every month. Indeed, the Southampton centre was recently refurbished and extended to meet increasing demand.

Russian railway managers study in Portsmouth

Thirty senior Russian Railways managers recently spent a week at the University of Portsmouth Business School for a financial training course.

It is the second trip the managers have made to Portsmouth as part of their MBA (Masters of Business Administration) degree programme which they are studying at the Moscow State University of Railway Engineering (MIIT). The visit to the Business School is also run in partnership with global accountancy firm PwC.

The partnership between the organisations came about through Language School International and was set up by principal lecturer in the department of accounting and finance, Dr Peter Andrew, after a visit to Moscow in 2009.

Russian Railways (RZD) is the second-largest rail network in the

world with 85,200 km of track and is the country’s largest employer with more than a million staff. It carries more than one billion passengers a year in addition to a billion tonnes of freight over 11 time zones from St Petersburg in the west to Vladivostok in the east.

RZD is one of Russia’s most profitable companies and is a major contributor to the economy with assets worth more than £55 billion. The students at MIIT undertake part of their course in the UK because fluency in English is part of RZD’s corporate policy. While in the UK they also learn about the privatisation of British Rail.

Portsmouth Business School is actively involved in teaching students and developing courses for industries in Eastern Europe, with relationships in the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Romania, as well as Russia.
