An increasingly valuable asset to the region

The Rose Bowl is well placed as it develops to equal the value of the Boat Show to Southampton and the regional economy, according to its chairman and chief executive, who welcomed more than 200 guests to the venue’s first showcase event.

Rod Bransgrove announced a new joint venture with Compass Group UK and Ireland’s Sport, Leisure and Hospitality business. The two companies have signed a 12-year deal worth up to £4 million in annual revenue.

The venture, which will trade as Rose Bowl Experience, will see Compass provide all retail and hospitality food services for substantial match-day and conference and banqueting business, which currently attracts up to a 250,000 visitors per year. This new venture will also be responsible for selling of match- day corporate hospitality through Compass’ Keith Prowse business as well as selling and marketing the conference and banqueting facilities.

This deal forms part of the £48m redevelopment of The Rose Bowl which, together with significantly enhancing the cricketing, spectator and media facilities, will provide the Club with some of the best banqueting, conference and event facilities in the area.

The deal was formally announced by Bransgrove at the function, which was aimed at welcoming business people, cricket fans and music lovers from across the south through The Rose Bowl’s

doors, giving them a behind-the- scenes tour of the facilities and offering a flavour of all the venue has to offer.

The Executive Club, Christmas party festivities, hospitality suites and the state-of-the-art media centre were all on show and guests were treated to some of the finest food on offer at the venue whilst meeting a selection of Hampshire cricket players and key members of staff.

Bransgrove said: “This deal means visitors to The Rose Bowl, whether they’re here to watch Hampshire or England play cricket, or whether they are here to enjoy the wide range of Christmas celebrations, conferences, private dining, weddings and other functions we provide, will be treated to the very highest quality both on and off the pitch.

“Cricket is at the heart of what we do. Not only are we the home of Hampshire Cricket, but we have also been fortunate enough to play host to England’s one-day internationals against the world’s best during the past 10 years.

This year The Rose Bowl will create history by hosting the first ever Test match on the south coast as England take on Sri Lanka in the third and final match of the npower Test Series.

“The award of such a match is proof that we are competing on the world stage when it comes to being a venue for international cricket. It is the culmination of 10 years’ work by all the staff at the club and we hope, ultimately, it will lead to the venue’s being awarded an Ashes Test in the very near future. However, The Rose Bowl is about more than just cricket. We hope to continue to build on our legacy as one of the newest and most iconic venues for music concerts.“

In thanking those who attended the showcase event, he concluded: “The reason we invited you was because we wanted you all to experience the new facilities for yourselves, meet the team behind it and feel that you, as fellow members of the regional business community, are a part of The Rose Bowl.“
