Dear Readers, T he 2011 Thermal and the Northern Winter Classic series are now “a thing of the past” and THE
MAGAZINE DEDICATED TO
HUNTERS AND
JUMPERS IN THE WEST
we turn our attention to spring the great show season in front of us. Seems we woke up to the first day of those circuits just yesterday, but here we are all packed up and on the road again like the set of obsessed, energetic traveling circus, gypsy, rodeo, show jumping people we are-never a dull moment. Speaking of dull moments, there were not too many of them at either series, nor for those riders who chose to travel across the country to Florida for those extravagan- zas. From the littlest Lead Line rider to Lucy Davis and her historic four in a row Grand Prix wins at the tender age of eighteen, the excitement level stayed high. At Thermal, even the vendors had a great time. Although they are not the measure of a show’s success, the past couple of years have been hard on them without a doubt. This set of shows, vendor row was always busy with activity as customers went from vendor to vendor in search of something needed or something that just looked fun to own. THAT is a good sign the economy is at least seeing some level of change. We are still a very long way from where we want to be but, spirits are high again. WHEW! For ShowBiz, we have teamed up with iJump Sports and
CardFlex Financial Services and have purchased a wonderful vendor trailer from Nancy Sherman as she closed Shorty’s Loft for good for the final time Week VI. iJump, CardFlex and ShowBiz will now be in the vendor area of most of the shows; we will be at as many as possible, please take a moment and look for us. ShowBiz is also starting a project that we would welcome
help with. We have made a commitment to the show jumping community to use the vendor trailer to also create a historic media tracking of the sport here in the west. Looking to have EVERY issue of the magazines that have
captured our history, ShowBiz is looking for people who have issues of Pig-n-String, Horses (June Fallaw), Horses (Judy Spreckles), Horses (Tish & John Quirk), Show Case Magazine (Susie Dotan), Show Circuit (Thorpe and Heidegger) and any other magazines you have laying around you would like to donate. The trailer will have special shelves of the magazines you can stop in and read. Look for
the SUPER comfortable chairs!!! HOWEVER, the magazine collection will not be available for loan out of the trailer………people are welcome to come in and have a cup of coffee as they read our history. Media is welcome to come browse for articles or photos of interest for stories, make copies….but to keep the collection intact, they
will stay in the trailer. PLEASE HELP AND DONATE THE MAGAZINES YOU HAVE IN YOUR CLOSET OR ATTIC OR GARAGE BEFORE THEY ARE LOST FOREVER. It would be wonderfully fun to eventually have every issue from the
beginning!!!! Special THANKS to Bob Drennan for starting this project off with a fun start by handing over a giant stack of them at Thermal……super
kick off, THANKS BOBBY!!!! See you on the road.
