and Drama and was going to teach sec- ondary education, but the horses were really my calling.” Sue has operated Lightacres in

Modesto for nearly thirty-two years and has had many great times and op- portunities along the way. “I’ve been blessed to have great horses, great stu- dents and lots of fun. The people I’ve met and worked with are remarkable. Now that I’m getting older, it’s won- derful to see individuals I knew when they were eleven, like Hope and Ned Glynn, making their mark in the horse business.” Sue is very proud of her small breed-

ing business, which this year produced the yearling and three year old USEF National Champions, Ragtime Cowboy and Rendezvous. She was awarded the leading breeder of Hunter Breeding horses for 2010. “I love young horses, always have” says Sue.

Raggedy Music, the west coast IHF Champion, is the fourth generation of Sue’s breeding program. Her mother, Pia’sadorable, was first a champion hunter who has gone on to compete successfully in the Grand Prix ring. She managed Ragtime, the USEF 2010 Na- tional Champion Hunter Breeding Sire, for a number of years and successfully oversaw his breeding and performance program. Together with Carol Wright, (Sue’s

student from the 80’s), she took “Rags” indoors in 2004. “I knew he was the kind of horse to produce good babies. Rags and my mare Misty View have made champions. I love that horse.” Outside of horses, Sue loves to travel.

She is an avid scuba diver who finds the time in the ocean amazingly peaceful. “My one wish,” exclaims Sue, “is to be diving and have a whale swim by! And I love music of all kinds. I performed

and sang a lot when I was in college and if I hadn’t done horses, I would have pursued an acting/singing career.” Life is always an adventure for Sue

and she is embarking on a new one these days. Thanks to Nancy Hersh- Boyle and Bob Walker, Sue is now the proud owner of a reining horse. “I al- ways want to learn more, and Bob and Nancy wanted me to come reining with them and I did. So now I have Buddy, a new reining trainer, Mark Hardin, and I’m off on a new adventure.” In a nostalgic mood she finishes with,

“I am blessed with all the wonderful people in my life; there are so many amazing hunter/jumper trainers who have helped me. I can’t possibly name them all, but Diane Yeager and John French have been so helpful in my life. My partner, Lori Clark, keeps me and our business on track. I am a lucky woman.”
